Payroll forms punish people who just want a pay stub.

The goal of the redesign was to modernise the experience and make pay stub creation quicker, clearer and easier. And because the platform handles payroll and financial information — employee, employer, income, deduction and tax data — the design had to communicate accuracy, security and trust at every step.

I started by walking the existing journey end to end: where the three-step promise broke down, where fields piled up, where labels and validations left users guessing, and where the visual language had gone inconsistent.

• Evaluated the existing journey and flagged friction in the three-step flow
• Simplified the information hierarchy and form experience
• Rewrote field labels, instructions and validations for clarity
• Grouped complex payroll information into understandable sections

• Improved navigation and progress visibility between steps
• Modernised the visual design on reusable design-system patterns
• Collaborated with BAs, developers and stakeholders throughout
• Refined against feedback before implementation

Progressive disclosure earns its keep in payroll.

Instead of overwhelming users with every field at once, the redesign guides them through a focused three-step journey — always showing where they are, what's done, and what information comes next. The hard part is balancing ease of use with accurate collection of employee, employer, income, deduction and tax details; progressive disclosure is what lets both win.

The designs were reviewed and refined with stakeholders ahead of implementation. Launch metrics aren't available yet — the honest outcome so far is a validated, simplified flow built on reusable design-system patterns.
